A few months ago, Mount St. Joseph (Pa.) senior Carly Monzo filmed and edited an innocent, four-minute video asking two-time snowboarding Olympic gold medalist (and budding musician) Shaun White to prom.
Monzo filmed it using a GoPro camera (cleverly one of White's sponsors) and then her and her friends tweeted it to White countless times, hoping the Flying Tomato would at least see it, if nothing else.
Not only did White take notice of the invite, but he immediately starting planning a surprise trip.
Fast-forward to this past Friday night, when school officials called Monzo to the stage, where the senior immediately wondered, “What could I have possibly done for them to address the entire prom?” she said to The Times Herald.
Instead of being punished, the curtain opened up to White and his band, Bad Things, playing a few of their signature songs.
“I was like, this is not real life right now. I was speechless. I didn't even know what to say.”
Sounds like an epic surprise (to borrow a word from White's lingo) for everyone except Monzo's original date, who reportedly stepped aside once White showed up. Good move, bro.
