California Chrome has won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. On Friday, he was challenged by a possum.

During his routine early morning gallop, Chrome was joined on the track by a wandering possum. The New York Daily News has several photos of the unscheduled race that, according to assistant trainer Alan Sherman, didn't affect the colt's workout.

"I didn't really see the possum until it was pretty much gone," Sherman told the paper, adding "it didn't faze him."

Since the possum was probably just looking to forage in some trash, we'll go ahead and award Chrome with the victory.

The colt will be running in the Belmont Stakes June 7 in an attempt to become horse racing's 12th Triple Crown winner and first since Affirmed in 1978.
