Serena Williams suffers 'viral illnes,' drops out of Wimbledon doubles

Just days after an unceremonious singles defeat in the third round at Wimbledon, Serena Williams was suffering from a "viral illness" and had to withdraw from her doubles match with sister Venus.

Williams struggled with rudimentary warmups and even looked shaky bending over to pick up the ball. From the outset, it was clear she wasn't anything close to herself.

The sisters tried to play through Serena's curious illness, but she wasn't able to compose herself when she was on serve in the third game. She seemed to struggle with her balance and once she finally hit it, she bounced it into the net. All four of her serves were double faults.

ESPN's Pam Shriver described her as "having a breakdown both physically and emotionally. ... This is not an illness," Shriver remarked. "It's almost like she's taken something that makes her feel dizzy, disoriented and she cannot reach up and strike the ball."

The sisters played through the third game (they lost all three) before walking off the court hand-in-hand. We'll keep you updated with the latest on Serena's condition. Click here for a recap of all of today's Wimbledon action.
