While the process to determine if the 2022 World Cup will remain in Qatar, the 2018 World Cup is no longer in question; it's staying in Russia.

Russia's selection as a World Cup host were already under some questions about the nation's human rights record and other such issues but came under further scrutiny with the recent involvement in Ukraine. FIFA gave some consideration to changing locations but landed on staying in Russia for 2018.

From the AP, here was what FIFA had to say.

On Friday, FIFA issued a statement saying it "deplores any form of violence" and questioning the purpose of relocating the sport's showcase tournament.

"History has shown so far that boycotting sport events or a policy of isolation or confrontation are not the most effective ways to solve problems," FIFA said, adding that global attention on the World Cup "can be a powerful catalyst for constructive dialogue between people and governments."

FIFA also said they believe this can be a force for good and the World Cup "can achieve positive change."

While Russia's political issues certainly raised the questions, it always seemed a long shot that the Cup would be moved for 2018; the budget has already been laid out and at least initial preparations have begun.

Still in question is the 2022 Cup in Qatar where an investigation is ongoing into the bidding process and if there was corruption to get the Cup to the Middle Eastern country. FIFA isn't expected to have an announcement on that until early September at the earliest.
