As if Caroline Wozniacki doesn't have enough to deal with right now as the U.S. Open looms, but the former No. 1 player in the world is also preparing to run her first marathon in the New York City edition.
It's going to require a lot of additional work but she already runs a lot as part of her training regiment for tennis. Still, she has never completed a run of more than 10 kilometers. That's going to change soon enough.
It helps that she's going to have a lot of support.
And no, this is not about a distraction from her breakup with top golfer and Open Champion Rory McIlroy, if that's what you were thinking. The AP explains:
The former No. 1 player said Thursday that she long had wanted to do a marathon and decided before Wimbledon that she could pull it off this year. She says seeking this challenge wasn't an attempt to distract herself from her personal life -- golfer Rory McIlroy broke off their engagement in late May.
The final for the women's tournament is scheduled to be finished by Sept. 8 while the New York City Marathon won't be run until Nov. 2, which gives her plenty of time between events ... if she weren't a professional tennis player with out tournaments to train for and play in.
