Associated Press photographer collapses at Chick-Fil-A Bowl, dies
Dave Martin died early Wednesday after collapsing Tuesday night at the Georgia Dome.
Associated Press photographer Dave Martin collapsed on the field following Texas A&M's victory over Duke in Tuesday night's Chick-Fil-A Bowl at the Georgia Dome. Despite efforts to resuscitate the 59-year-old on the field and later at a nearby hospital, Martin died early Wednesday morning.
According to a release, Martin suffered a heart attack.
"Dave Martin was an excellent photojournalist, a consummate and dedicated professional and a wonderful person," AP Vice President and Director of Photography Santiago Lyon said. "Wherever his work took him he made many friends and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him."
Martin apparently collapsed while taking celebration shots of the Aggies' sideline and coach Kevin Sumlin.
"He lived life to the fullest. We should all be so lucky to get out of our time on this planet what he did in 59 short years," a colleague at the AP, Paul Newberry, said. "He is simply irreplaceable."
