Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, who showed extremely well at the World Cup in Brazil, is transferring from Barcelona to Arsenal, the club announced on Thursday after he passed his physical.

The 25-year-old is set to transfer for a fee somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 million (30 million pounds). Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was obviously thrilled with the addition.

"As many people have seen during the World Cup this summer, Alexis is a fantastic footballer and we are delighted that he is joining us at Arsenal Football Club. ... He has consistently produced top-quality performances at the highest level for a number of seasons now and we are all excited to see him integrate into the Arsenal squad."

Sanchez scored 47 goals in 141 games for Barcelona, and he scored twice in Brazil.

"I'm so happy to be joining Arsenal, a club which has a great manager, a fantastic squad of players, huge support around the world and a great stadium in London," Sanchez said.

The Telegraph also reported that Arsenal is set to sign Mathieu Debuchy, the French defender who was vital in his side's quarterfinal run.
