Landon Donovan to play one last time for US National Team
Donovan will take part in the team's friendly Oct. 10 in Connecticut against Ecuador.
Landon Donovan's international soccer career ended quite unceremoniously, with the US legend being left off the 2014 World Cup squad. But he'll still have his chance to say goodbye, as he'll suit up one final time for the Americans this fall.
US Soccer announced Tuesday that Donovan will be on the field in an Oct. 10 friendly against Ecuador in Connecticut.
"Playing for the US National Team has been a huge part of my career and I'm ecstatic to have the opportunity to play for my country one last time," Donovan said. "I'm so grateful to all the fans that have supported me and this game will give me the chance to say thank you to all of them. I look forward to a great evening and I'm thankful to U.S. Soccer for making this happen."
Donovan announced earlier this month he'd be retiring from professional soccer following the MLS season.
"For 15 years, Landon has thrilled us with his amazing abilities on the field and impressed us with his gracious approach off the field," US Soccer President Sunil Gulati said. "We are looking forward to celebrating his legacy during our next home National Team match and allowing fans the opportunity to thank him for all the memories he’s provided over the years."
