Lionel Messi sidelined six-to-eight weeks with torn hamstring
The world's top player was injured Sunday.
Barcelona's Lionel Messi will mix between six and eight weeks after tests reveal a torn hamstring muscle in his left leg, the team announced Monday. Messi suffered the injury in Sunday's match against Real Betis.
The four-time reigning world player of the year, Messi has been bitten somewhat by the injury bug in the second half of 2013. He missed a week earlier this year with a bruised thigh, then three weeks with a small muscle tear in his leg.
If Messi is sidelined until the end of the calender year, he'll miss two friendlies as a member of Argentina's national team and four Barcelona matches.
In 16 games with Barcelona this year Messi has 14 goals.
