Maria Sharapova fires coach Jimmy Connors after just 34 days
Maria Sharapova has fired her coach, Jimmy Connors, after one match. The duo was 0-1.
That didn't take long.
After just 34 days together, Maria Sharapova has fired her coach, former tennis player Jimmy Connors.
"Not the right fit for this time in my career," Sharapova said in a statement.
Sharapova announced last month that Connors would be her new coach, and that the two had informally worked together before. But after one match -- a loss to American Sloane Stephens -- the relationship apparently fizzled.
Connors, a fiery, former eight-time major-winner, had also coached former U.S. Open champion Andy Roddick.
