Report: UFC fighter Thiago Silva jailed after armed standoff
The fighter allegedly barricaded himself in his home after an altercation at a jiu-jitsu studio.
Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Thiago Silva is in custody after threatening people at a jiu-jitsu studio and barricading himself in his Florida home, according to multiple reports.
According to both the site and the Sun-Sentinel, an armed Silva first threatened people at Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy then went and locked himself in his Oakland Park, Fla. townhome.
No one was injured, investigators say, and a SWAT team was called in to extract Silva from his residence.
The reason for the threats is not known at this time.
According to the paper, Silva was booked into jail early Thursday morning on four counts, including aggravated battery and resisting an officer.
UFC officials are aware of the incident.
"[Thursday] evening, we were made aware of a situation involving Thiago Silva," UFC officials said in a statement to MMAjunkie. "We are in the process of gathering the facts and have no further comment at this time."
Silva, 31, is scheduled to fight in next month's UFC 171 in Dallas.
