Ryan Lochte tears MCL trying to catch an excited fan
Ryan Lochte hurt himself in perhaps the most embarrassing way possible.
Ryan Lochte, one of the world's top swimmers and five-time gold medalist, will be taking a break from training and competing.
The reason? He hurt himself during an encounter with a fan in Florida last week.
According to USA Today, an overzealous female fan ran to Lochte and jumped on him. Though he was able to catch her, they both tumbled to the ground. Lochte tore his MCL and sprained his ACL.
"As a result of a freak injury caused by an unexpected fan encounter Ryan has suffered a torn MCL and an ACL sprain and will be taking a break from training and competition," his representative Janice Lee said, according to the paper. "His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery and Ryan thanks everyone for their well wishes."
The girl was not injured.
