Sheriff: Investigation into Kevin Ward Jr.'s death could last two weeks

The investigation into the events this past Saturday that led to the death of Kevin Ward Jr. could last at least two more weeks, Ontario (N.Y.) County Sheriff Philip Povero announced Tuesday.

On Saturday in New York state, a sprint car driven by Tony Stewart struck and killed Ward Jr. -- who had exited his vehicle -- during a dirt track race.

In front of the media, Povero stressed the importance of finding out all the details prior to releasing any information to the public.

"It would be inappropriate to discuss details or findings with the media at this time," Povero said, according to USA Today.

Povero said that more information will be released once the investigation has concluded and he has had a chance to discuss the matter with the district attorney. On Monday, Povero said at a press conference that "there are no facts that exist that support any criminal behavior or conduct or support any probable cause in this investigation."

It is not known when Stewart will return to racing.
