Tony Stewart won't race Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway
Tony Stewart is skipping his third consecutive race in the wake of his fatal collision with Kevin Ward Jr. on August 8.
Tony Stewart won’t race Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway, the third consecutive Sprint Cup race he’ll skip in the aftermath of his fatal collision with 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr. on August 8th.
Stewart-Haas Racing announced that Jeff Burton, who subbed in for Stewart’s No. 14 car last week in Michigan, would race instead.
Stewart’s future Sprint Cup plans are undetermined, according to the release from SHR.
The three-time NASCAR champion has been in seclusion since the August 8th accident, although he’s reportedly been cooperative and available to investigators.
Stewart ran Ward Jr. off the dirt track during a race in upstate New York and collided with the driver on the following lap as he apparently sought to confront Stewart.
The investigation by Ontario County Police (N.Y.) is ongoing, although the sheriff has said there was no evidence to support criminal intent.
