ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a cost-cutting move, Michigan and Ohio State will no longer print media guides to their sports teams.
The universities announced on Thursday in a joint statement that they will stop printing the guides immediately. The schools estimate that together they will save more than $250,000 per year.
Michigan athletic director Bill Martin says the decision to stop printing the guides provided to members of the media is prudent given the recession and focus on new media.
Ohio State athletics director Gene Smith says the universities hope other schools will follow their example.
In February, Major League Baseball stopped printing the green and red guides to the National and American leagues. A pdf version was made available.
