Former England coach Venables returns to Wembley

LONDON (AP) -Former England coach Terry Venables has made a low-key return to management after a 4 1/2-year absence by joining Wembley FC, a team from the ninth tier of the English football pyramid.

The 69-year-old Venables, who led England to the semifinals of the 1996 European Championship, has been hired as the new technical adviser of the non-league club, which usually attracts less than 100 spectators to its games.

Venables was last seen in the dugout in his role as assistant to England manager Steve McClaren, before both were fired in November 2007 after the national team failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

Wembley FC has been able to sign Venables after agreeing a sponsorship deal with Budweiser, which is also in the first of a three-year deal as title sponsor of the FA Cup.
