McDonald recalled to Australia football squad

SYDNEY (AP) -Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald has been recalled to Australia's squad for next Wednesday's friendly against Scotland in Edinburgh.

McDonald has yet to score after playing in 25 internationals but has been named in coach Holger Osieck's 20-man squad in place of Japan-based Josh Kennedy who has a knee injury.

Kennedy is expected to be fit for Australia's World Cup qualifying match against Jordan on Sept. 11.

Lucas Neill, who is currently without a club after being released by Al Jazira, will captain the team. Star forward Harry Kewell, who is also unaffiliated after leaving the A-League's Melbourne Victory, was not considered and Tim Cahill, who signed in July with the New York Red Bulls, was not available.

The squad includes veteran Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.
