PARIS (AP) - Defending champion Montpellier was held to a 1-1 tie at home against Toulouse in the French league opener on Friday night, a physical game that included three ejections.
Souleymane Camara put Montpellier ahead in the 34th minute when he ran onto a superb pass from John Utaka and sprinted clear before slotting the ball in.
Montpellier midfielder Jamel Saihi was ejected five minutes later for a reckless high challenge, and Wissam Ben Yedder headed in the equalizer in the 72nd.
Toulouse midfielder Adrien Regattin was sent off one minute later for a late tackle, and right back Serge Aurier followed for a wild lunge in the 83rd.
Big-spending Paris Saint-Germain opens at home Saturday against Lorient.
