Sendai beats Omiya 3-1 to close gap in J-League


OMIYA, Japan (AP) -Jiro Kamata and Toshihiro Matsushita scored second-half goals on Saturday as Vegalta Sendai won 3-1 at Omiya Ardija to move within one point of leader Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the J-League.

Yu Hasegawa gave Omiya a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, but Brazilian Wilson equalized in the last minute of the first half with a right-footed shot from nine meters for his 10th goal of the season.

Kamata put the visitors in front with a header in the 56th minute, and Matsushita sealed the win with his first goal of the season late in injury time.

Hiroshima lost 1-0 away to FC Tokyo, with Lucas scoring early in the second half.

Elsewhere, Tsukasa Umesaki and Yuki Abe scored in the first half to lead third-place Urawa Reds to a 2-0 win over Shimizu S-Pulse. Urawa is two points behind Hiroshima.

Jubilo Iwata kept its title hopes alive with a 3-0 victory over defending champion Kashiwa Reysol. Jubilo scored through Hiroki Yamada, Yuichi Komano and Ryoichi Maeda.

Kashiwa has not won since beating Cerezo Osaka 4-1 on July 28 and is in fifth place.

Nagoya Grampus edged out Kawasaki Frontale 1-0 from a 73rd-minute strike by Mu Kanezaki, while Albirex Niigata beat Kashima Antlers by the same score.

Brazilian Leandro scored a hat trick to lead Gamba Osaka to a 7-2 thrashing of Consadole Sapporo, which is last place having only won three games.

Cerezo Osaka beat Yokohama F Marinos 2-0, and Sagan Tosu and Vissel Kobe played to a scoreless draw.
