ATHENS, Greece (AP) -Veteran defender Loukas Vyntra scored in the 34th minute to give visiting Panathinaikos a 1-0 victory over Levadiakos in the opening round of the Greek league Saturday.
The Panathinaikos captain scored with a low drive from just inside the area after a free kick by Lazaros Christodoulopoulos.
Five minutes later, Vyntra saved on the line to preserve the lead. Levadiakos also had a shot by Stefano Napoleoni hit the crossbar in the 19th.
In other games Saturday, Asteras beat hosts AEK 1-0 and, in its first appearance in the top flight, Platanias held hosts Giannena to a scoreless draw.
Defending champion Olympiakos starts its campaign Sunday, traveling to newcomer Veria.
