Bayer Leverkusen signs goalkeeper Michael Rensing

LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) -Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Michael Rensing has signed a one-year deal with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, and will likely be used as a backup for Bernd Leno.

Rensing played for Cologne last season but the club was unable to afford the goalkeeper after getting relegated from the Bundesliga. Rensing failed to break through at Bayern and was released in 2010. He was out of job for half a season before Cologne hired him in December 2010.

Leno was brought to Leverkusen to step in for injured former Germany goalkeeper Rene Adler, who has been subsequently released to join Hamburger SV.
