Zenga fined for calling reporter's question stupid

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) -A local report says former Italy goalkeeper and current Al Nasr coach Walter Zenga has been fined 2,000 dirhams ($545) by a United Arab Emirates court after he called a reporter's question "stupid" following a match last season.

Zenga, who coached Italian clubs Palermo and Catania before moving to the UAE in 2011, sparred with Al Khaleej reporter Mumen Mahmoud following a 1-1 draw last season against Al Wahda. Mahmoud asked why Zenga employed defensive tactics during the match, prompting the Italian to call the question stupid and storm out.

Mahmoud filed a complaint against Zenga and a court Thursday found in his favor, says the National newspaper. Zenga is appealing the verdict.

Making offensive remarks deemed insulting can result in fines or even jail in the Gulf.
