France wins 1-0 at Finland in World Cup qualifier


HELSINKI (AP) - Didier Deschamps won his first competitive match as France's coach, with Abou Diaby scoring to give Les Bleus a 1-0 victory over Finland on Friday night in an opening qualifier for the 2014 World Cup.

Diaby shot into the corner of the net past goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky in the 20th minute after Finland midfielder Alexander Ring lost the ball, allowing Karim Benzema to play it through for his teammate.

On Tuesday in Group I, France hosts Belarus while Finland travels to Czech Republic for an exhibition.
