PIRAEUS, Greece (AP) -Greece beat Lithuania 2-0 for its second straight win in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday.
Sotiris Ninis beat goalkeeper Zydrunas Karcemarskas with a shot in the 55th minute after Costas Mitroglou hit the crossbar with a header and Lithuania's defenders failed to clear the ball.
Mitroglou sealed the European Group G match in the 72nd, finishing at close range after a one-two with Ninis.
The Greeks worked hard for their goals, with striker Fanis Gekas missing two headers in the first half and Karcemarskas working well with his defenders to hold the hosts back.
The visitors rarely threatened, however, and finished the game without a single clear chance.
Greece won its opening qualifier in Latvia 2-1 last week, and coach Fernando Santos said his side showed improvement since that game.
"We created chances, scored two goals, and could have got more ... sometimes we lost concentration, but I'm happy," Santos said.
"I think Mitroglou coming on in the second half put the pressure on them. And Sotiris had a really good day. So we gave the crowd some good football."
