Frankfurt tops Bundesliga after 2-1 Nuremberg win

  •

BERLIN (AP) -Eintracht Frankfurt became the first promoted club to win its opening four games of the Bundesliga season on Friday after a superb solo effort by Japanese midfielder Takashi Inui secured a 2-1 victory at Nuremberg.

"We're also playing good football you have to say. We're happy and the fans are happy," Frankfurt coach Armin Veh said.

Inui, an offseason signing from second division Bochum, surged past two Nuremberg defenders from the left, and then went past two more before curling his shot inside the far post in the 60th minute. Teammate Erwin Hoffer came off the bench to open the scoring in the 25th following a couple of early injuries.

Sebastian Polter ensured a nervy finish for the visitors when he pulled one back with 14 minutes, heading in Hiroshi Kiyotake's free kick.

It was the fourth assist in four games from Kiyotake - a former teammate of Inui's at Cerezo Osaka - who had hit the post earlier in the game and had scored the previous weekend.

Victory moved Frankfurt into provisional top slot in the standings, but Bayern Munich can reclaim the lead on goal difference with a win at Schalke on Saturday.

"We'll try and get as high (up in the table) as possible but the next opponent is also very tough. (Defending champion Borussia) Dortmund are playing well at the moment," Inui said.
