MILAN (AP) -Jaime Valdes atoned for his earlier penalty miss with a stoppage-time spot kick to rescue a 1-1 draw for 10-man Parma at home to Fiorentina in Serie A on Saturday.
Valdes saw his 55th-minute penalty saved by Fiorentina goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano but made no mistake with his second.
Minutes earlier, Serie A top goal-scorer Stevan Jovetic, who had four goals in the previous three games, missed the chance to seal the win for Fiorentina when his penalty was saved by Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.
Aleandro Rosi was sent off in that incident.
Argentine defender Facundo Roncaglia scored a stunning first goal in Italy to give Fiorentina the lead.
Roncaglia hit the post in the first half, as did Parma defender Alessandro Lucarelli in a thrilling match at Stadio Ennio Tardini.
Parma won its previous six games at home but it seemed as if that run was going to be broken when, in the 20th minute, Roncaglia collected the ball 25 meters from goal and controlled it well before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the top left corner.
The home side should have leveled on the half hour when Lucarelli headed Dorlan Pabon's corner powerfully off the right upright.
Minutes later, Fiorentina also hit the post when Roncaglia struck Matias Fernandez's free kick onto the right upright.
Parma could have leveled eight minutes into the second half as Valdes tried to emulate Roncaglia, but his effort flew narrowly wide of the left upright.
Roncaglia almost went from hero to villain two minutes later when he needlessly brought down Pabon, who had his back to goal on the far right of the area. However, Viviano got down smartly to his left to save Valdes' weak penalty and spare his defender's blushes.
Parma was pushing and Massimo Gobbi twice went close to the equalizer.
Fiorentina looked as if it was going to make Parma pay for its profligacy when Rosi hauled down Mattia Cassani when he was meters away from goal.
However, Jovetic, who had scored in all three of Fiorentina's Serie A matches this season, hit his penalty straight at Mirante.
Fiorentina almost immediately regretted that miss as Viviano was forced into a brilliant save on the line to keep out Amauri's header.
However, Luca Toni gave away the third penalty of the day in stoppage time with a handball and Valdes made no mistake at the second time of asking.
