NORWICH, England (AP) -Luis Suarez scored a hat trick Saturday as Liverpool earned its first win of the Premier League season with a 5-2 drubbing at Norwich to ease some of the pressure on new manager Brendan Rodgers.
Suarez, who also netted a treble at Carrow Road in April, gave Liverpool a perfect start by scoring with a shot from the edge of the box after just 67 seconds, and added his second in the 38th. Midfielder Nuri Sahin made it 3-0 shortly after the break and Suarez then completed his hat trick in the 57th as Liverpool finally managed to convert its advantage in possession into goals.
Steve Morison pulled one back for the hosts four minutes later, but Steven Gerrard added the fifth for Liverpool in the 68th.
Grant Holt scored another consolation goal for Norwich in the 87th, but the hosts were booed off the pitch as they remained without a victory under Chris Hughton.
Liverpool had just two points from five games going into this weekend after its worst league start in more than 50 years but climbed out of the relegation zone with the victory. Rodgers opted to go with start a trio of teenagers as Andre Wisdom and Suso were given their first Premier League starts alongside Raheem Sterling - and all three impressed with their pace and fluent play.
But it was Suarez who provided the ruthless finishing, first driving home a shot from 18 yards after Glen Johnson's throughball was cleared into the path of the Uruguay striker.
He had a strong penalty claim denied when he was brought down in the area in the 23rd, but added his second when he stole the ball from Michael Turner and slotted home from 12 yards. He then set up Sahin for the third before curling a brilliant finish past the outstrethced John Ruddy to complete his hat trick.
