SAO PAULO (AP) -Brazilian club Coritiba says it has reached a deal to hire former Fenerbahce playmaker Alex.
The announcement was made Wednesday before the team's Brazilian league match against Nautico in Curitiba. He is expected to sign a two-year deal, with his official introduction to fans set for Thursday.
Alex started playing professionally with Coritiba but played most of his career in Turkey with Fenerbahce, where he was a fan favorite. His contract with the club ended a few weeks ago because of a dispute with the coach.
The 35-year-old midfielder was in Brazil's team which won the 1999 and the 2004 Copa Americas.
He was with Palmeiras when it won the 1999 Copa Libertadores and with Cruzeiro when it won the 2003 Brazilian league.
