LONDON (AP) -Defender Chris Baird scored a rare goal for Fulham to secure a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Baird met a cross from John Arne Riise to score in the 84th minute, just his third goal for the club since his arrival in 2007.
The victory improves Fulham's strong recent home form, giving the Cottagers 32 points from a possible 42 in 2012.
Aston Villa, which has scored a paltry six goals in eight matches this season, has failed to win an away league game in 10 months, a stretch that includes five draws and eight defeats. The club is off to its worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1986-87 when it was relegated.
