Hearts beats Motherwell 1-0 in Scottish league


EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) -Motherwell missed the chance to climb to third place in the Scottish Premier League by losing 1-0 to Hearts on Sunday.

Danny Grainger's superb goal from 30 yards (meters) in the 14th minute earned Hearts its first victory at home since the opening day of the season, ending the division's only unbeaten away record in the process.

Motherwell, which came closest when Nicky Law saw his header cleared off the line, remained sixth in the standings - seven points off league leader Celtic.

Hearts moved up two places to eighth in the 12-team league.
