LONDON (AP) -Crystal Palace says its manager Dougie Freedman has left the club to join fellow second-tier English side Bolton.
Bolton, which has yet to confirm the appointment, has been searching for a new manager since firing Owen Coyle this month after the team's poor start to the League Championship season following relegation from the Premier League.
Freedman is seen as one of the country's best up-and-coming managers after turning around the fortunes of Palace in his first coaching role.
The team reached the semifinals of the League Cup last season, beating Manchester United along the way, and is currently fourth in the 24-team League Championship.
Palace rejected Bolton's initial approach for Freedman but gave its rival permission to speak to him Monday.
Bolton is in 16th place in the standings.
