ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) -Thirty-five fans of Argentine club Colon have been released on charges of vandalism after club officials handed over $35,000 to pay for damages after fans smashed car windshields and shattered restroom fixtures at the stadium of Paraguay club Cerro Porteno.

Paraguay judge Jose Delmas released the fans on Friday after announcing the club was paying for the damages.

The violence took place Tuesday in a Copa Sudamericana match, which Cerro won 2-1 to eliminate the Argentine club from the tournament. The match was delayed 20 minutes in the second half when fighting broke out in the stands.

Fan violence is common in Latin America with battles often breaking out between rival hooligan gangs known as barras bravas.
