SAFA sends condolences after 'devastating' crash

JOHANNESBURG (AP) -The president of the South African Football Association has sent condolences to the families of four second-tier league players who were killed in a car accident this weekend.

It was the second road tragedy in a month for South African football after national team assistant coach Thomas Madigage died in a crash in the same region in October.

SAFA's Kirsten Nematandani says the four latest deaths are "sad, painful and difficult for relatives, friends and the South African football fraternity."

SAFA says the players from the Polokwane City club were identified by police on Monday as Koketso Takalo, Robert Mphuti, Moeketsi Nthete and Silvester Mpaketsane.

They died Sunday in the northern Limpopo province when the minibus carrying them back from a game collided with another vehicle.
