JOHANNESBURG (AP) -Gordon Igesund is concerned over the Soccer City pitch ahead of the African Cup of Nations opener on Saturday, another worry for the sluggish home team's under-pressure coach.
Igesund took time to inspect various areas of the field on Thursday as South Africa trained ahead of Saturday's tournament opener against Cape Verde.
Igesund didn't comment to pitch-side media but was unhappy at areas of patchy grass and chunks of re-laid turf in front of one goalmouth at the showpiece stadium.
Soccer City will host only the opening game and final at the African Cup, but has had trouble keeping the grass in good state after the venue was used recently for concerts.
With his team also in mediocre form, Igesund says "the pressure is something that we can handle."
