Rob Rang: Pairing Clowney with Watt would be Texans' best move

More NFL offseason: NFL Mock Drafts | Prospect Rankings | Top free agents

I asked CBSSports.com draft experts Rob Rang and Dane Brugler about the No. 1 overall pick, and Rang said one name stands above the rest:

"The talent in this draft is extraordinary. I personally believe there are several legitimate candidates to go No. 1. In order, I would place them as Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack, Blake Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater and Greg Robinson.

"Typically, the team selecting No. 1 is in full rebuild mold. I don't believe that applies to the Texans, who obviously finished with the league's worst record a year ago but possess a roster largely intact from the [successful 2012 team].

"As such, the right 'guy' for the Texans is a pass rusher. The road to the AFC South title now travels through Indianapolis due to Andrew Luck. Attacking the line of scrimmage with [J.J.] Watt and either Clowney or Mack gives Bill O'Brien his best chance at reversing the fortunes of the Texans in his first season.

"Obviously quarterback is an issue but with Jimmy Garoppolo, Aaron Murray, AJ McCarron and Zach Mettenberger projecting as potential NFL starters and all likely to be available outside of the first round, the Texans should be looking for immediate impact with the first pick."

Brugler has a different view:

"Since Bill O'Brien was hired, I've leaned toward Blake Bortles being that ideal fit because of his skill-set and natural abilities, both physical and mental. Factor in the George O'Leary connection and connecting the dots, it makes sense."
