Packers retain TE Jermichael Finley, who keeps his $3M roster bonus

The Green Bay Packers retained tight end Jermichael Finley on Monday, so he receives his $3 million roster bonus, according to a league source.

There had been some uncertainty about the talented but inconsistent tight end's status. Green Bay is facing a salary cap crunch this offseason while also looking to extend the contracts of stars like Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews.

However, with receiver Greg Jennings departed, the team opted to keep Finley, who will make more than $8 million this season.

There had been a report this past season that the Packers had become fed up with Finley, and would be moving on rather than have to pay him so much in 2013. He reached a two-year deal with the club last year, when the Packers were considering franchising him.
