Geno Smith's wait in the green room on Thursday night lasted longer than many expected. But with so much quarterback need remaining in the top half of the second round, it's hard to imagine the fall lasting much longer.
Jacksonville will be taking a quarterback sometime relatively high in this draft and have Smith, Matt Barkley, Ryan Nassib and plenty of others to choose from. The Jaguars have been high on Barkley but did plenty of work on Smith as well. I projected them to trade up into the first round for Barkley. If the Jags stay at No. 33, he could be the pick.
After Jacksonville at 33, the Eagles (35) and Jets (39) are looking hard at quarterbacks. Oakland was considering Smith with the 12th overall pick and is up again at pick 42. There are plenty of teams in that range trying hard to trade down -- Detroit among them -- and perhaps someone makes a move for a quarterback.
I have a hard time seeing Smith going anywhere outside of that range. But in this draft, who knows?
Several teams like NC State quarterback Mike Glennon, and I would not be surprised to see him go higher than some project. Nassib's fall might go longer, given that his college coach, Doug Marone, shocked the football world and took E.J. Manuel with the 16th pick -- the only passer taken in the first round.
