Western Kentucky to Conference USA in 2014

Western Kentucky will join Conference USA next year, according to a source close to the situation, likely replacing Tulsa as the league's 14th member.

Tulsa is on its way to the old Big East. That move is not official, but league sources say it's a matter of when the Golden Hurricane joins, not if.

The Bowling Green Daily News first reported the move.

If Western Kentucky coach Bobby Petrino, who was hired in December, stays with the Hilltoppers for a second season, he will have coached in three different conferences in four years -- the SEC, the Sun Belt and Conference USA.

Conference USA, which has lost several schools to the old Big East, also added Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee State in November.

Conference USA recently signed a television deal with Fox worth more than $40 million and also has media-rights contracts with CBS and ESPN.
