Edinson Volquez, who once looked like a prime trade candidate, now appears likely to stay in San Diego.
The Padres have gotten inquiries about Volquez but intend to keep him, said people familiar with their thinking.
Volquez, 6-7 with a 3.34 ERA, is ineligible to become a free agent after the year, making him attractive to teams. And that includes the Padres.
San Diego locked up Carlos Quentin to a $27-million, three-year deal Sunday on an agreement first reported by CBSSports.com. The Padres, as Scott Miller reported, intend to try to sign closer Huston Street, who is eligible for free agency after the year.
