Yankees insured for most of $114M left on Rodriguez's deal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Yankees are insured on Alex Rodriguez's $275 million contract, and could receive 75 percent to 80 to percent of the remaining money if he's unable to play it out, sources said.

Rodriguez has $114 million over five years to go on the deal.

Surgery to repair a torn labrum on his left hip, plus a bone impingement and cyst, is expected to keep him out until about June.

Yankees people are expecting him to return to play this season, but it is apparent his body has begun to break down. He previously had surgery to repair a torn labrum on his right hip.
