K-Rod has a new team -- will pitch for Venezuela in WBC

Even though he's looking for a full-time job, free-agent pitcher Francisco Rodriguez is still planning to pitch for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic.

Rodriguez, a WBC enthusiast who also pitched for Venezuela in the event in 2006 and 2009, is unusual as a free-agent pitcher participating in the tournament. Rodriguez may be able to use the event as springboard for a new job.

Rodriguez had a down year in 2012, going 2-7 with a 4.38 ERA and three saves for the Brewers and apparently hasn't found his market yet. The Mets, who had K-Rod from 2009 to 2011, were one of the teams that showed some interest at one point. A domestic incident that was dropped may not have helped matters, even though it's behind him.

Rodriguez has 294 career saves with a 38-34 record and 2.70 ERA. He had a 1.86 ERA for the Brewers in 2011 after a midseason trade to Milwaukee from the Mets.
