TaylorMade has done a terrific job marketing its new R1 drivers. Wednesday was a great chance for the company to combine that marketing with honoring some of our military heroes.

An aside: Is there any sport that does a better job paying tribute to the military than golf? I say no.

I put a video of the scenes at Riviera at the top of this post. It was visually stunning -- I love Dustin Johnson's reaction.

Here's what chief marketing officer Bob Maggiore had to say about the event:

"Living in San Diego, we are keenly aware of the sacrifices our nation's military makes and we have had a long-standing relationship with Operation Game On."

Operation Game On is a San Diego-based organization that helps returning combat-injured military members rehabilitate through golf.

As many as 20 TaylorMade golfers will be playing the Northern Trust Open with the name of a military veteran on their hats.

Thumbs up (Phil Mickelson-style) all the way around.
