Tiger Woods falters in final round at Honda Classic, shoots 74

You got the feeling that Tiger Woods was just hanging on and hanging on and hanging on until he could post another 60-something like he did in the final round of the Honda Classic last year.

Well, that plan went very badly for Woods on Sunday.

A double bogey and bogey on the front nine, along with three bogeys and a double on the back meant Woods closed with a rough 74, 13 shots off the lead when he finished up.

The +4 final round is Woods' worst final-round finish since a +5 final round at the Barclays at the end of last season.

After his round he told NBC:

I kept making too many penalties this week. I didn't play that poorly but I had two water balls and a lost ball. Take those away and I missed two short birdie putts and it was actually a decent round. I just have to clean up my rounds.

Woods fought gusty winds all day and actually made a few birdies on the front side, but he couldn't put anything together on the back until the final hole.

He wasn't alone either. Jason Dufner shot a 74, Dustin Johnson shot a 75, Ben Crane shot a 79, and Retief Goosen shot an 80.

Woods did eagle No. 18 in very similar fashion to last year's No. 18 eagle on Sunday -- a sick fade into a wicked right-side pin setting.

It was at least a glimmer in at the end of a pretty dark final day.

And with Rory McIlroy's early exit, at least Woods was still pumping those Nike shoe sales!

Woods will compete again in the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral next weekend -- you know, the one where he withdrew last year and got chased by the blimp down the highway like he was O.J. Simpson.
