Rory McIlroy storms up the leaderboard with second consecutive 6-under 65

By Shane Bacon | Blogger

The first week of college football season usually means a lot of powderpuff scheduling moves by the big teams, with a few schools actually going hard to start their year. At the same time, at the PGA Tour's version of bowl season, all the big names have decided to show up at TPC Boston, and Rory McIlroy joined the show on Saturday at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Rory, who snagged the PGA Championship last month in record fashion, shot a second straight 6-under 65 to jump the rest of the FedEx Cup field, taking the lead by two thanks to a circle-happy scorecard that included six birdies and an eagle.

According to the PGA Tour's media Twitter feed, Rory has shot 65 or better in three of his six career rounds at TPC Boston, and it could have been better if he hadn't sprinkled in two bogeys, including one on the par-5 second.

A win this week would put Rory atop the FedEx Cup rankings, but more importantly, would show once again that when his game is clicking, he's definitely as close to a second-coming of the dominant Tiger Woods as we've ever seen.

Graeme McDowell once said about Rory, the only thing he doesn't understand about McIlroy's golf game is how he doesn't shoot 65 every round. So far at TPC Boston, he's showing Graeme isn't too far off.
