Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy paired together in Abu Dhabi

As the fates (or tournament organizers) would have it, those random computer-generated pairings in Abu Dhabi spit out a first-round threesome of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer.

Crazy!

The good news for those of us stateside is that we'll get to watch (kind of) in prime time.

Woods and McIlroy tee off at 10:40 p.m. ET Wednesday, the Golf Channel will have full coverage (I'll probably be tweeting the event, you can follow me at the handle below).

Woods addressed the media for the first time on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi and had some interesting things to say.

A sampling below:

I put the clubs away and never looked at them for a couple of weeks but then it was nice to train and get stronger to get the endurance up.

I went out and played nine holes today. It felt good to be out there again.

How much money do you think he took to pose with that camel?

He talked about slowly working himself back into shape.

That's how I was raised, from when I was a little boy, from putting to chipping to pitching to irons to driver.

I thought my ball-striking was good and my short game finally came round towards the end of last year.

It's true that his putting wasn't that good last year, if he figures that out -- we could be in for an epic season.

He was asked, for the first of many many times this year, about him and McIlroy.

I would just like to win golf tournaments. The rankings take care of themselves by winning tournaments.

At one point last year I was outside the top 50 and then, lo and behold, I won three times and look where I am now.

I can't wait to use the phrase "lo and behold" in a headline this year.

He had a pretty interesting quote on McIlroy almost missing his Ryder Cup tee time last year.

I once missed a tee time in a junior event. I phoned in to ask for it and I said my name was Woods. Evidently there was another Woods playing, Steve Woods. They gave me his slot and I missed my tee time.

It's the only time I've ever been in a situation like that and I vowed it would never happen again. That was a pretty empty feeling knowing all I had to do was give a little more detail, my first name, and it cost me a chance of winning a tournament.
