Lefty posted a 60 and just missed out on the sixth 59 in PGA Tour history with a lip-out birdie on his final hole. The video is mesmerizing.
Bones was absolutely devastated: watch him fall to the ground when it lips out ...
For fun, here's the full list of golfers who have shot 59 in PGA Tour history.

Phil was pretty bummed after his round because he knew what was at stake. Here's what he had to say:
"I was thinking 59 back on 10" -Phil Mickelson— Kelly Tilghman (@KellyTilghmanGC) January 31, 2013
Phil: "When it was a foot out, I just couldn't see it missing either way. It was right in the center." #pgatour— PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) January 31, 2013
He also told the Golf Channel after his round:
You don't get chances to shoot 59 very often and to have that putt on line, I'm kind of mortified it didn't go in.
Bones had a great quote, too:
Bones: "It's kind of like a pitcher who's got a no-hitter going. I just handed him the putter and got out of the way."— Jason Sobel (@JasonSobelGC) January 31, 2013
Mickelson did tie the tournament record (which he previously shared) with his 60 (Bo Van Pelt shot a practice-round 59 on Wednesday).
Here's what his scorecard looked like:
Phil has shot 59 before, but it was in the 2004 Grand Slam of Golf, which is not recognized as an official PGA Tour event.
The key to Mickelson's round? The following stat. This was through 16 holes. He missed an 18-footer on his 17th hole and barely missed that 20-plus footer on the last one for the 59.
Lefty putting out of his mind: 16-for-17 on putts 25' and in today. Made 71% of those putts last week.— Justin Ray (@JRayESPNGolf) January 31, 2013
I still say he was just trying to shoot his tax rate.
Here it is one more time if you want some golf torture.
