The first thought I had when I initially laid eyes on the 15-degree Super S fairway wood and 19-degree Super S and Super LS hybrids was that they looked about as sharp as I've ever seen a fairway wood or hybrid look.
Turns out they hit like they look -- offering that rare combination of beauty and brains that make Adams the No. 1 hybrid on the PGA Tour.
Let's take a closer look at what makes these clubs great.
The big-time feature of these clubs is the slot on top and bottom of the club as you can see in the photo above. These slots create a spring effect in the face of the club, which means Adams is as hot as ever.
The USGA has set a limit on spring effects at a characteristic time (CT) of 256 and these clubs are consistently sitting around 230 (250 for the Super LS hybrid). They're long.
So what's the difference between the LS and the S? Here's Adams engineer, Tim Reed:
The LS has more technology, more features and benefits. It also has a premium price point. Both the S and LS are phenomenal, and we recommend that golfers attend demo days and try both of them. Some golfers will play better with the S, and others will play better with the LS
I can attest to this. The Super S is simpler to hit, maybe even a bit cleaner. But all of these are very hot clubs.
What I loved
I feel so much control with the 19-degree Super S and Super LS hybrids that I use them off the tee on some shorter par-4 holes to try to set up my approach shot. That's a big thing for me; I'm not a great player so I feel good when I have a club in my hands I feel like I have control over. Both the Super S and the Super LS provide that.
The white head is also nice. It's clean, chic, and feels good when I have a 220-yard par-5 approach I'm about to nail with the Super S fairway wood.
I've always been a big fan of Adams clubs (Tight Lies anyone?) and these new souped-up fairway woods and hybrids are no different. Thumbs up all the way around.
