It has been five years since Brandt Snedeker found himself in the last group on the final day of the Masters, one that ended with him needing 77 strokes to get around the course. It was a disastrous end to a week that held such promise through 54 holes, the culmination of which resulted in a third-place finish and a tear-filled post-round press conference.

On Sunday, before Snedeker would again take his place in the last group, he told CBS that he's a different golfer than he was in 2008, one who has played -- and won -- in pressure situations. And those experiences, along with the tough lessons that he learned the last time he was in contention at Augusta, would hopefully make 2013 different.

And on the front nine, that looked to be the case. Seven-under to start the day, Snedeker came out firing with a birdie on the difficult first hole before back-to-back bogeys looked to derail his afternoon. Except this time, perhaps drawing on those aforementioned experiences, he fought back to birdie No. 8 and made the turn at even par.

But a careless bogey at No. 10 and another at No. 11 sealed Snedeker's fate. By the time it was over, he had four bogeys on the final nine -- including one on the last -- and signed for a 3-over-par 75. So, for the second time on these hallowed grounds, Snedeker was victimized by bad timing, betrayed by his game after three very good rounds.

Still, despite the disappointment in how Sunday's round unfolded, there's no shame in shooting a 75 on one of the world's toughest courses on its biggest day. Snedeker can chalk up these experiences, too, and hopefully seize the opportunity should he get it.
