The thought of Paulina Gretzky traipsing about South Korea, potentially stirring up an international incident, must have been too much for Dustin Johnson. He and Zach Johnson (no relation) pulled out of the Ballantine's Championship in South Korea on Monday.

CNN has the story:

"'They have reached this decision following perceived unrest on the Korean Peninsula and can no longer assure their commitment to this year's event,' Ballantine's said in a statement on the website of the European Tour, which co-sanctions the tournament with the Asian Tour."

Zach Johnson noted that there were people in his life encouraging him not to go.

"It was one of those things where the women in my life really didn't feel like it was necessary for me to go. The posture and rhetoric that is taking place right now makes it not worth it. And it probably is just posture and rhetoric. However, I don't want to take the chance."

Dustin Johnson also felt like it was too dangerous:

"I feel bad for the tournament. They were gracious and understanding. Hopefully it will work out in the future."

The Johnsons are keeping it pretty conservative for the media, but can you imagine their behind-the-scenes conversations?

I mean, Dustin Johnson breaking down Korean politics could be its own reality show.

Jokes aside, this is a bummer, especially because Zach Johnson has had a reputation in the past as a guy who won't go overseas, an image he was trying to shed by playing this tournament.
