Matteo Manassero might not be a household name in American golfing circles, but you might want to get ahead of the curve on this one because the kid is transforming into a star.

The 20-year-old Manassero won the BMW PGA Championship in England on Sunday with a playoff victory over Simon Kahn and Marc Warren. The European Tour might get ignored a little bit in the United States, but this field was no joke. In fact, the BMW PGA Championship is one of the biggest events annually on the European Tour (equivalent to the PGA Tour's Players Championship).

Rory McIlroy played this year. So did Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell, Ernie Els and Justin Rose.

Manassero beat them all -- and, in the process, won the fourth European Tour event of his career just one month after his 20th birthday.

Know how many European Tour and PGA Tour wins that McIlroy and Tiger Woods had at the same age? Two, combined.

Before this monster win, Manassero was probably best known for being the youngest golfer in Masters history at the age of 16 -- a record that Guan Tianlang shattered earlier this year.

But Manassero doesn't have to rely upon being known for gimmicks anymore because he's a bona fide star. This win gets him in the U.S. Open and British Open this year, and it will be his third time to play each.

And that's what's next for the young Italian -- competing for majors and in World Golf Championship events. His best finish at a major is T13 at the 2009 British Open when he was 16.

McIlroy tweeted after the tournament that he feels like an old man at 24 compared to the 20-year-old Manassero. I have a feeling the youngster is going to be giving golfers gray hairs for years to come.
